This sandy haven stretches approximately 2.6 kilometers wide. To the front are views of the Bristol Channel; rows of beach chalets are behind you. This beach provides plenty of space to relax and soak in the sun. You can stroll along the beach or go bodyboarding for an exciting day out. Dunster Beach is also great for fishing.
The surrounding scenery is just as impressive as its coastline – from the rolling hills to the picturesque harbor, it’s quite the sight. If you’re looking for unique photo opportunities, you’ll find many! The nearby villages are also worth exploring, with their quaint streets and stunning architecture.
And there’s even more to do. You can hunt for fossils in the cliffs, explore nearby historic sites, or take a boat ride to see the local marine life – there’s no shortage of things to do in Dunster!

Dunster Beach Overview
Dunster Beach is the perfect spot for a day out. This beautiful sand and pebble beach sits on the north side of Dunster Town and offers expansive views of sand, turquoise waters, and lush greenery. A rocky area descends into a long sandy shore at low tide. The beach also has restrooms and showers so you can get ready after a long day in the sun. You’ll also find a nearby golf course.
It’s a great place to relax and spend time with family and friends. Admire the views along Blue Anchor Bay, and you can look towards South Wales across the Bristol Channel.
We found the water surprisingly warmer than our Pacific Ocean in Southern California. Spinach-colored seaweed gathered on the shoreline. Gazing down at the sand, it’s fun to do seashell hunting while walking along the beach. On a warm day in the village, the air can be notably cooler along the water with a pleasant breeze.
If you enjoy hiking, this beach area on the edge of Exmoor hosts part of the expansive West Somerset Coastal Path.
Railway enthusiasts can visit the West Somerset Railway, view the old-fashioned steam train, or even take a ride.
Parking is available at several pay car parks nearby.

Nearby, you’ll find butterfly gardens, a nature reserve, and much fauna and flora that provide a habitat for local wildlife.

Visitors will find several amenities at this long-time holiday site. Picnic and BBQ facilities are located in the beach area. A shop and kiosk are open daily starting in April, where you can find necessities. Drinks, light food options, and ice cream are available at a small cafe. You’ll find people in the shop who are knowledgeable about the area and can answer questions to help you with your visit.
Local Attractions
Dunster Beach is surrounded by plenty of attractions to explore. You can take a ride on the scenic West Somerset Railway or admire the local wildlife at Exmoor National Park.
Additionally, you can wander through the nearby historic sites, such as Dunster Castle, for a truly enlightening experience.

From the north: Exit M5 at J23 (Bridgwater) follow signs for A39 Minehead
Arriving from the south: Exit M5 at J25 (Taunton) follow A358 through Taunton and continue to Williton to join the A39 to Minehead.
From A303, join A358 at Illminster, head towards Taunton, then follow A358 through Taunton and continue to Williton, where you join the A39 to Minehead.

The nearest mainline train station is at Taunton. From there, you can board a bus to travel to Dunster. The beach is a 10-minute walk from the A39 once you arrive in Dunster.
Parking Near Dunster Beach
You’ll find several options for parking near Dunster Beach. A nearby public car park is available for visitors. Frequent visitors can purchase a long-term car park ticket.
Parking is available from 8 am to 10 pm, Monday to Sunday. Parking is available for cars, motorbikes, motorhomes, and vans.
Another parking option is the Dunster Steep car park, located on the southeastern side of the A396, approximately 200 meters from its junction with the A39.
In some areas, you can park your car next to the beach.

Dunster
Dunster Village is a charming place in Somerset, England’s rolling hills. It offers visitors a unique and picturesque experience with its cobbled streets, medieval castle ruins, and quaint, quiet environment. Dunster Beach is just a short walk or car ride from the village.
You can walk to the beach in about 45 minutes from Dunster Village. We traveled a route through housing areas, farms, and cow pastures. As you get closer to the shore, you will pass the railroad tracks of the West Somerset Railway. The train is another way to enjoy the beautiful countryside via an old-fashioned steam train.
Exmoor National Park
Exmoor National Park is one of the most incredible places in England. Located on the North Devon and Somerset border, this expansive beauty offers stunning views, a variety of wildlife, and plenty of outdoor activities like walking, cycling, horse riding, and more. We enjoyed nearly all of our meals in nearby Dunster Village. You’ll find breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, and dinner options. Start your day with a hearty breakfast and then walk down to the beach for a relaxing late morning.
You’ll find friendly lunch options at the Dunster Castle Hotel. After a morning at Dunster Beach, we enjoyed tuna and vegetarian wraps at this hotel restaurant.
Locks Victorian Tea Rooms – Great for afternoon tea. We enjoyed English tea served in a pot, accompanied by scones, cream, and jam – quite delightful!
